Holodomor Remembrance Day

November 26, 2022

November 26th: Holodomor Remembrance Day

Traditionally, on the fourth Saturday of November, at 4:00pm, the memory of more than 10.5 million Ukrainians killed during the genocide is commemorated with a moment of silence and lighting of candles in the central squares of Kyiv, near the monuments to the victims of the Holodomor, in temples and in the Hall of Memory at the National Museum “Holodomor Victims Memorial.”

The tradition of lighting candles on the windowsills at homes, the so-called “Candle in the Window” campaign, was first suggested by the researcher of the Holodomor James Mace in 2003: “Even seven decades later, a candle that flickers in the window seems to me to be a worthy reply.”

Please light a candle in your window, to mark this tragedy, and remember the victims. Share a photo of the lighted candle on social media. #holodomor

Будь ласка, засвітіть свічку у своєму вікні, щоб відзначити цю трагедію та згадати жертв. Розмістіть фото запаленоі свічки в своїх соціальних мережах. #holodomor

UCAO will also be laying a wheat wreath by the Ukrainian Tree in the Peace Garden of the Franklin Park Conservatory.
